Texas Land & Ranch Sales was founded by lifelong friends James Murr and Matt Johnson, who grew up together in Bishop, Texas—a tight-knit farming town just south of Corpus Christi, in the heart of farm and ranch country.
Some of their earliest memories came from hunting together on the Murr Ranch outside Junction, near Fort McKavett, where they spent days exploring, studying the land, watching wildlife, and developing a true appreciation for Texas landscapes. That shared love for the outdoors shaped their careers and still fuels everything they do to this day.
Both James and Matt graduated from Texas A&M University. After college, their paths took them across Texas: James returned to the Brazos Valley and became the broker-owner of Cortiers Real Estate, serving College Station and the surrounding counties for over a decade. Matt moved to San Antonio, built a successful real estate career, and eventually owned a RE/MAX franchise before deciding to return home to the Brazos Valley in 2025.
Reunited in College Station, they decided it was time to build something they had talked about for years—a brokerage dedicated to the land they love, the people they understand, and the lifestyle they grew up living. That vision became TRLS - Texas Land & Ranch Sales.
