Director of Marketing
Matthew is a seventh-generation Texan and seventeenth-generation American with a lifelong passion for the outdoors and rural life. Born in Dallas and raised in Austin, he grew up hunting, fishing, and exploring the diverse landscapes of Texas. At a young age, Matthew also developed an interest in graphic design and advertising by watching his father, James Mikus, serve as Creative Director at McGarrah Jessee Advertising, where he led campaigns for YETI, Shiner Beer, Whataburger, Costa Del Mar, Frost Bank, and more.
In high school, Matthew co-founded Texas Wild, a fly-fishing and rock-climbing guide company that later partnered with Texas Parks & Wildlife to teach outdoor skills to fellow enthusiasts. In addition to working as a guide and instructor, he applied his graphic design and marketing skills to develop uniquely branded shirts, hats, and stickers, which were sold through a fully functional e-commerce website and promoted across multiple social media platforms.
Matthew went on to study Advertising and Graphic Design through the Texas Creative Program at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in May 2021. After college, he served as Head of Social Media Marketing for Sportsman’s Finest, a boutique hunting and fishing outfitter in Austin, where he managed a wide range of marketing initiatives. During his time there, he launched and operated a full-service custom Kydex holster manufacturing branch of the business, servicing hundreds of clients.
He later worked as Creative Specialist at the nonprofit consulting firm DickersonBakker, focusing on graphic design, video production and editing, and social media strategy and execution. There, Matthew helped build and launch a marketing department from the ground up, expanding the firm’s reach and strengthening its brand recognition in the nonprofit fundraising sector.
In early 2024, Matthew and his wife Lauren purchased a home on his family ranch near Brenham, Texas, and soon after welcomed their first son, James Russell Mikus. Today, the Mikus family enjoys life on a multi-generational homestead raising chickens, cattle, and horses.
As Director of Marketing for Texas Land & Ranch Sales, Matthew combines eight years of marketing experience with a deep personal understanding of Texas land, heritage, and rural living.
